This multi-session workshop is designed to equip students with the skills to critically analyze and understand the complex relationship between media representations of environmental issues and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aims to cultivate critical thinking, scientific understanding, and effective communication and persuasion skills related to environmental sustainability and media literacy. The lesson is structured around several key components, including an introduction to ecomedia literacy and the SDGs, media analysis, examining visual communications, class discussions, and creating eco-conscious media with scientific rigor.


Learning outcomes

  • Critical Thinking & Analysis: Students will analyze media representations of environmental issues related to the SDGs, identifying biases, agendas, underlying messages, and the interplay between scientific data and its communication to the public.
  • Scientific Understanding: Students will investigate the scientific basis behind the environmental issues portrayed in the media, linking to specific SDGs and the potential impact of solutions or lack thereof.
